| Let Taps echo off buildings and mountainsides all across the country on August 14th in celebration of the contributions of America's veterans and appreciation for the liberties we enjoy to this day. We are calling on all trumpet players and buglers in America to join with thousands of fellow musicians by playing Taps at sundown in their time zone as part of a rolling tribute across the country. This could be part of a Keep the Spirit of '45 Alive event, or any available local event, an evening church service, a sporting event, a block party or picnic in the park. Or it could simply be a personal, solitary tribute played from your front porch, front door or out the window for the benefit of the neighborhood. To find a place to play Taps for a local event, and perhaps even get paid for it, the first thing to do is to join Bugles Across America. This is a national organization dedicated to providing buglers for any occasion, primarily military funerals for veterans. Get on their list and BAA may locate a Taps gig for you in your area. Then check with any local organizations you think might be interested in including the playing of Taps as part of their activities on August 14th, 2010. There are countless organizations that might be interested in the Spirit of '45 concept and Taps Across America if you provide them with the information. Some might not be interested in a full Day of Remembrance event, but might incorporate Taps as part of any local activity, like a BBQ, picnic, dinner or party. Civic organizations, the local Chamber of Commerce or the Jaycees could be a good place to start in local communities. Local clubs and organizations, especially those with elderly members and a focus on veterans, like Moose and Elks clubs, will be interested. Veteran organizations, particularly the VFW and America Legion, are likely candidates. Senior Centers and Assisted Living Facilities are also potential participants. Private parties and corporate organizations might hold events, perhaps a BBQ or corporate picnic, that include a flag salute and the playing of Taps as a moment of remembrance. The Taps Across America project could put thousands of buglers to work, including you, for at least for one day. And it could turn into an annual gig when Congress approves the second Sunday in August as an National Day of Remembrance. The size of any renumeration for the bugler will be up to negotiation. Big Band or Concert Band Trumpeters If you are a member of a big band or concert band a Spirit of 45 event in your community will be a good opportunity to promote your band. Taps Across America should be part of that program and you can play Taps and participate in this nation-wide project. We highly recommend playing Echo Taps with two or three trumpeters participating. This is an excellent opportunity for your band and it could lead to an annual gig for your group when Congress approves the second Sunday in August every year as an Annual Day of Remembrance.
