The Stories of Service project is part of an effort to encourage veterans and senior citizens to write or record their memories of WW II for inclusion in a database in The Library of Congress and on the web.

The goal is to not only preserve history, but to encourage younger generations to utilize their technical skills to assist elders in submitting their memories and stories of courage, sacrifice and commitment in WWII, Korea, Vietnam and other areas. It is hoped that personally connecting youngsters with the men and women who lived these stories will help them to better appreciate the lessons of history.

The project will enable future generations to learn the history of WW II through first hand accounts from people who were directly involved. The program is also intended to educate and inspire future generations with an appreciation of the value of service to community .
