Taps Across America is an integral part of the Keep The Spirit of '45 Alive initiative to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the end of WWII and honor America's veterans with a National Day of Remembrance on August 14th, 2010. Taps Across America will be an important part of these celebrations.

This will be a nation-wide pause, a shared moment of prayer and reflection, to consider the blessings we've all enjoyed because of the courage, sacrifices and commitments of our veterans and the Greatest Generation. Then, in the time-honored tradition of our nation's military, trumpeters and buglers all across the country will join together in the playing of Taps in a united salute to honor our veterans of all wars, past and present.

The plan is to perpetuate these celebrations with an annual Day of Remembrance on the second Sunday of August every year to remember, honor and thank WWII veterans and members of our Greatest Generation. The celebrations will range from good old-fashioned community or civic celebrations to barbecues in city parks or concerts and stage shows featuring the swing music, community bands and entertainment of the era. A bill has been submitted to Congress to continue this tradition by making the second Sunday of every August an annual National Day of Remembrance.

Taps will be played at 7 p.m. in each time zone as a salute to honor WWII Veterans, who saved our freedoms and democracy, and members of The Greatest Generation who built the America we enjoy to this day.

The Taps Across America project is an important part of the effort to promote Day of Remembrance and Keep the Spirit of '45 Alive projects through the participation of individual buglers, local big bands and community bands in America's towns and cities.

It is also part of an effort to Promote the Playing of Taps for Military Funerals, which are part of the promise America made to all citizens who have served in our military. The tradition is a funeral, a flag and the playing of Taps, but recent claims of a lack of available buglers has led to the non-traditional use of electronic devices for the rendering of Taps. Since there are literally millions of capable trumpet players in this country, we hope to help organize America's trumpeters and buglers to serve this purpose.

Calling All Trumpeters and Buglers
Who are Not Participating in Official Programs:

Haul Out Your Horn on August 14th, 2010 and Join Us!
Spread the Word! Stand on your front porch
Or stick your horn out the window at the appointed hour
and Play Taps -- loud and clear.
Then listen for the echo.....
Thousands of players will be joining you.

We are calling on all trumpet players and buglers in America to join with thousands of fellow musicians by playing Taps at 7 p.m.in their time zone as part of a rolling tribute across the country. This could be part of any available local event, an evening church service, a sporting event, a block party or picnic in the park; or it could be a personal, solitary tribute played from your front porch, front door or out the window for the benefit of the neighborhood.
